A jacket's useful history does not end when it leaves the factory. It may be returned, repaired, and sold again. This episode follows one illustrative item through those events and asks what should be recorded, who may act, and what a later reader should see. The workflow is configured to the product and service process, rather than assuming every return means the same thing.

Begin by resolving the right item. A product model tells you shared specifications, while the serial or other supported item identity links the individual history. Confirm the physical item and the authorized organization before recording an activity. A readable label helps locate a record, but it cannot by itself prove ownership, condition, or the authenticity of every physical component.
Treat a return as an event that needs context. Record the reason, condition, time, and receiving party where the workflow requires them. Keep receipt separate from inspection and from a decision to release the item. An item that has arrived at a service center is not automatically ready for resale. Make unresolved checks visible to the next operator.
For a repair, connect the service activity and supporting evidence to the same item when that identity remains appropriate. Record what was done and by whom, with access suited to the information. Reuse shared model and batch facts without overwriting them with one item's repair. If a transformation requires a new identity, agree that rule and preserve the relevant predecessor relationship.
A transfer of custody and a change of ownership are different business events. Define which your workflow records and who may confirm it. For resale, decide what product and service history can help the next owner without exposing previous customers' private information. A public passport should contain selected, permitted information rather than a copy of every internal service document.
Keep the current status consistent with accepted events. If an inspection is missing, do not present the item as checked simply because a return was logged. Handle wrong entries through the appropriate correction process. Test repeated scans, duplicate submissions, and handoff conflicts. The purpose is a trustworthy sequence that people can use, not a timeline filled with unsupported green checks.
Start with one return and repair journey. Agree the identifiers, event meanings, evidence, permissions, and release criteria. OriginSpan provides a product identity and lifecycle foundation; integration and operating rules must fit the engagement. Bring a sample service record and the customer view you want to an OriginSpan demonstration. The booking link is in the description.
